Leftism v. The Church

Ceiling. Trastevere

If you haven't figured it out yet, pretty much everything you see on TV is a fraud. I attribute it to two primary reasons: (1) The fraud is baked into the medium's DNA. Video is, by its nature, superficial and appeals to emotion more than intellect. Whenever you appeal to emotion, you're appealing to a less accurate level of understanding. (2) The hegemony of the Left's ideology in the mainstream media. The Left is, as a rule, wrong about pretty much everything (you might say wrongheadedness is baked into the Left's DNA). When you combine the two, an "intellectually loose" medium and an ideology, you get a fraudulent product.

Examples, of course, are legion, but this is the one that prompted the above: Bill Nye the 'not so science' guy. Nye is an ideological hack, not a scientist, and it was proven on Reddit in a lengthy Question and Answer session. I've observed those Reddit "Ask Me Anything" sessions. They draw in some pretty high-octane young adults. You have to sift through a lot of juvenile banter, but there's serious intelligence in many of the AMAs. Added observation: The Reddit universe is strongly Left, of the Bernie sort (which makes sense: Reddit is dominated by twenty-somethings). The fact that Nye got roasted on Reddit speaks volumes of his ineptness as a scientist.

Why do I say wrongheadedness is baked into the Left's DNA? Simple: The Left, historically speaking, is an ideological movement that, from the start, has been opposed to the Catholic Church (and Christianity in general): opposed to its teachings, opposed to tradition,

opposed to the organic growth toward truth that comes with tradition. Its godfather is Voltaire (though one could trace its roots as far back as William Occam), who was rabidly anti-Catholic. Its raison d'être was to attack Catholicism and traditional Christianity in general. If you, like me, believe in the Catholic Church's teachings, you must, by definition, believe wrongheadedness is baked into the Left's DNA. Does that mean you must, by definition, believe that everything promoted by the Left today is wrong? No, a lot of intellectual evolution has occurred over the past 250 years and there are a lot of issues out there. By odds alone, it would be nearly impossible to be wrong about every single one of them. The Left today is not, by definition, opposed to the Catholic Church today (though it certainly is to a large extent, as evidenced by Hillary Clinton's anti-Catholic plans last year), but both are descendants of rabidly-opposing forces and stand largely opposed to each other to this day.

Christmas Gift Suggestion: I like this cold frame almost as much as my hard cold frames . . . and it costs a third as much. I've only had it a year (I put it in the field in fall 2016), so I can't assure you of its durability, but it certainly seems to have come out of the first full year in great shape.
