Miscellaneous Rambling

Ceiling. Trastevere

Feast Day of Pius X. A friend just gave me a relic of Pius X, so on this day, I'm better than everyone else.

Will we ever know what exactly happened at Charlottesville? Probably not, but Tom Woods recently hosted Kevin Preston, a "leftist anarchist," who has spent a lot of time analyzing it. He breaks it down step-by-step in this podcast.

MAXimum Greens has forced me to get on Facebook frequently. Geesh, I hate that site. Everything from the inane to the extremely inane is thrust at me every time I log on. For the past couple of weeks, I've had to read an acquaintance of mine rant against Trump and the alt-right, in one post, analogizing the Confederacy to Nazi Germany. When someone replied, "WTH? You compare slavery to killing 6 million people?" his brother replied, "Slave owners probably killed more than 6 million slaves." Both of these guys are intelligent, but they spout idiocy like that. I prefer to stay ignorant of other people's ignorance. It helps me keep what little equanimity I enjoy.

And in case anyone here isn't aware: Slave owners treated their slaves well, materially speaking. Psychologically, emotionally, socially: things were bad. But for material things, the slaves were taken care of, and they normally had it better than poor whites in industrial urban areas. Thomas Sowell goes through the facts in his Ethnic America. Thaddeus Russell does a similar analysis in his Renegade History.

And no, I'm not saying slavery was a good thing. It's tiresome that I even have to make such a disclaimer, but in these Days of Idiocy, a guy can't be too safe. He can be too cowardly, but he can't be too safe.
