More Miscellaneous Rambling
Benedict of Nursia feast day today. I thought about getting Rod Dreher's new book, The Benedict Option: A Strategy for Christians in a Post-Christian Nation, but I know I wouldn't finish reading it. Besides, I've read enough about Dreher's opinion on this to know the general parameters. I meant to post this link months ago: A Brief History of the Redneck. It's about the Scots-Irish: Those Presbyterian troublemakers that were settled in Ulster by King James in the early 17th century, but then migrated in mass to Appalachia in the mid-eighteenth century because they were tired of fighting with the Irish around Ulster. They became today's rednecks. They're also my ancestors on my mother's side (as far as we can tell; her ancestors lived in the hills of Kentucky).
Gavin McInnes' latest at Taki. I'm not sure what to make of it, but he references the ongoing race war between blacks and Mexicans that, to be honest, I was wholly unaware of: "There is a race war going on in America, and it's the least reported conflict in the history of American media. Even the Southern Poverty Law Center admits that Mexicans are “terrorizing” blacks in Southern California. Everyone knows Mike Brown's name, but few discuss the case of Anthony Prudhomme, a young half black who was murdered because “They wanted all blacks out.” The same is true of Cheryl Green, whose crime was being black and riding her skateboard near Mexicans. King's hypothetical scenario is already very real, and it's not just the brawling we see in L.A. high schools, it's the firebombing we see in neighborhoods when the two demographics reach equal numbers."
