Miscellaneous Rambling

Happy leap year day. It may not seem like much, but the extra day adds a nice little boost for those professionals who get paid by the hour. Heh, heh, heh.

Hectic weekend, but due to an odd confluence of events, I actually had all seven kids home for about 75 minutes Friday night. It dawned on me suddenly as I was working my way through my third Tom Collins that this was the first time I'd had all seven kids home since Christmas, even if it was in a hectic party-like setting in my family room (fourteen people there total). Very nice, though I finally had to surrender to Hypnos and go to bed at 11:30.

Man, I hate lice. This story bums me out: 'Super lice' outbreak hits 25 states. Michigan isn't on the list. But Indiana is . . . and I sit on the border.

That last link came from the New York Post. I used to love the Post, but got away from it for some reason. I decided to check it out yesterday and ran across a few other interesting pieces, such as this one: Dying for fame: 21 reality stars commit suicide in past decade. I've never participated in a dead pool, but if I did, I think I'd load up on reality stars. There's something about the extreme vainglory that seems to make them good candidates. (But hey, I'm still walking around.)

I'm very glad to see this: "In 2014, the USCCB finished a two-year investigation into the Girl Scout organization, identifying multiple concerns with programming, advocacy efforts, and policies at multiple levels of the organization that conflict with Church teaching. Based on the concerns identified, bishops have begun to look into the connections to the girls in their own dioceses, and are alerting laity and clergy that these conflicts exist. Archbishop Joseph Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas City was the first to share concerns in 2014, followed in 2015 by Bishop James Johnston of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Mo. (who is now serving as bishop of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph), and Bishop Michael Sheridan of the Diocese of Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2015." Thank you, Church. Great work. But what took so long? Anyone with a pulse and half a nose for current events has known about the Girl Scouts' libertine agenda (pro-abortion, pro-lesbian, pro-premarital sex, pro-anything-that-involves-rigorous-use-of-the-genitals-as-young-as-possible) fifteen years ago. I knew about it when Abbie was looking to join when she was five. She's now 21. How many good Christian parents were led to support this heinous organization during those years? How many girls have been corrupted by the association? Again, I appreciate what you did, Church, but next time, please try alacrity. I know that's not your forte, and it's normally a good thing, but with something as outrageous as the Girl Scouts, you need to take the gum from under your shoes.

And again, I normally think it's a good thing that the Church is so costive. One of the best openings to a movie: "In 1984 director Philip Groning asked the Order of Carthusians for permission to film them." The next words: "He was told that it was too soon. Perhaps in ten to fifteen years. . . Sixteen years later came a call from the 'Grand Chartreuse' monastery. The time had come." Into Great Silence.
