I couldn't remember the book that really “hit me” and made me think, “Shi'ite, those libertarians are probably right after all.” All my life, I had disliked libertarians, primarily because Ayn Rand was such a bi-otch, but then I started reading some stuff by Albert Jay Nock that I greatly enjoyed, and then I ran across this shorter work by his disciple, Frank Chodorov:
The Rise & Fall of Society.
If I had to recommend one book of political philosophy, that would be it. Short, well-written, cogent.
$2.99 at Kindle Amazon. I'm guessing there's also a cheap Nook version.
