Random Gin Thoughts
Is it me, or do women drink "gin and tonic," whereas men drink "tonic and gin" (as in, "making love to his tonic and gin")?
I've tried many types of gin since going on my gin kick two years ago. Tanquery Rangpur still reigns number one for me, beating out even Bombay Sapphire.
A close second: regular Tanqueray, with Canada Dry's lime tonic. Great combo.
I keep thinking that Canada Dry's ginger ale and gin or vodka would go well together, but I haven't looked into it, whether with my tongue (tasting), eyes (reading), or ears (asking around).
The last random reminded me of that Amis quote last week: “Reading must be combined with as much drinking experience as pocket and liver will allow.”
I can't decide whether I like gin or vodka more, though. A dear friend (George) brings me lots of vodka and he swears that gin is swill. I also recall that Chesterton had some grim things to say about the gin user, but I can't bring myself to agree with George or Gilbert. Maybe someday, but for now, I really like both (gin and vodka . . . not George and Gilbert; well, I like George and Gilbert but . . . I don't want readers to go back to that Billy Joel quote at the beginning of this post and starting piecing together some Freudian string of homoeroticism).
Since starting the new TDE, readership hasn't declined an iota. In fact, it might even be up a little. That calls for another tonic and gin, of which I've had plenty as of this typing.
