Miscellany

You ever tried rutabaga? I never had, until a TDE reader sent me some seeds to plant. I figured, "What the heck?" I planted them last August, then harvested a huge rutabaga a few weeks ago. Man, it might be the best-tasting vegetable I've ever tried. That's not saying much since, as a rule, I don't like vegetables (I make myself eat a lot of them for cave man reasons), but it appears others agree that it's awfully good and one of the most under-appreciated root crops out there. * * * * * * * Did you know a single mom that makes $29,000 a year brings in $57,327 due to entitlements? If the same mom earned $69,000, she'd bring in $57,045. That and other information about our warped incentive system can be found here. * * * * * * * I'm increasingly inclining to the view that, when it comes to public policy, nothing matters except incentives. I don't know if that makes me a Misesian, a Sowellian, an atheist, a bastard, or what, but for me, the fact that incentives are the only thing that matter gets clearer and clearer every day. And our country is chock full of warped incentives, whether it's the Obamaphone or corporate bailouts that allow rich people to gamble with our money. * * * * * * * BXVI is tweeting.
