Bought this grow light last weekend (before I knew the garden store had finally opened). I expect it to arrive today or tomorrow. Gonna use it to start an indoor herb garden now, then use it to start seedlings in February. * * * * * * * The day is here. Once again, the MSM has succeeded in whipping up interest, even frenzy, which is a great sign for the Washington Party. If people get this engaged every four years, that means they're not remotely close to seeing through the illusion. * * * * * * * But I must admit, I got a little excited last week when I read Dick Morris' prediction that Romney would win more than 300 electoral votes, with long enough coattails to bring the Senate under Republican leadership, too. I have little doubt that the Republicans will continue the raping of the middle class, but they're more inclined to renew tax credits and kill Obamacare next year. Without those initiatives, my disposable income will go down about 10% next year. Very painful. If we're going to hell, I'd rather go with some cash in my pocket, even if the cash is increasingly worthless. * * * * * * * A little extremism from a Catholic priest: "Voting in governmental election is participation in violence. That is not political ideology, that is just fact. Voting in governmental elections is participation in violence because that is what governmental elections are about at their root. A governmental election is one method of legitimating the use of violence of one human being against another." Link. I sympathize with the sentiment, but disagree. Not all government is violent. In fact, most forms of government aren't violent: the government in my house, for instance, or in my local Kiwanis Club, or at my church. Now, modern political governments are almost exclusively violent. Everything they do--because they over-reach so far--needs the threat of force behind it. But still: Do people participate in the violence merely by electing their torturer? I don't quite buy it. If two thugs have guns pointed at my head, and they let me choose which one kills me, did I participate in my killing? Am I a suicide? That's a stretch. * * * * * * * "Most beers lean right, while liberals prefer Absolut." For more about the politics of drinking, click here. Interesting graphic. * * * * * * * The Vatican, btw, has endorsed the new Bond movie. Unfortunately, it appears to endorse this 007 on grounds that he cries. Sigh. * * * * * * * Everything under the sun has been produced. Even those things under the moon: The Journal of Dracula Studies. h/t.
