Last football game of the year last night. Whew. It hasn't been a great season, and I'm glad it's over. Time to gear up for basketball. * * * * * * * A TDE reader sends along this picture of nuns watching the presidential debate, along with this proposed caption: "Riding around Ohio shilling for Obama makes these nuns thirsty. . ."

Gardening Question

Can any TDE readers help me with this gardening question? The Vegetable Gardener's Container Bible recommends the following soil formula: 20 quarts of high-quality compost and 20 quarts of the following mix (equal parts): sphagnum peat, vermiculite or perlite, and limestone. Earlier in the book, the author describes limestone as follows: "either dolomitic or calcitic). A source of calcium added to container mixes to counteract the acidity of peat moss."

My problem is, I can't really find limestone. When I go to various online gardening stores, I see all sorts of LIME available, but virtually no limeSTONE. Are they the same thing (for purposes of making container soil)? I have also found limestone FERTILIZER, but not just limestone.

If anyone can shed some light on this issue, that'd be great. I actually went to the extreme measure yesterday of sending a letter via first class mail to the author, c/o of the publisher. It's an archaic method, I know, but I find that companies are pleasantly surprised to receive a traditional letter. I send 'em two or three times a year, and I almost always receive a nice and appropriate response. I sent a lengthy letter to the Detroit Lions five years ago, and a person from the main office actually called me on the phone to review my concerns.

Good Late Night

"The Obama campaign is releasing a new ad showing Americans whose financial situation has improved over the past four years. Unfortunately, the only person who appears in the ad is Mitt Romney." Conan

"I don't know why they had a debate. This race was over last night when Honey Boo Boo made her official endorsement. She's pulling for Barack Obama. They say as goes Honey Boo Boo, so goes the election." Kimmel
