One-sixth of the nation is officially pro-Obama: Record High Enrollment for Food Stamps: 46,681,833 Million. * * * * * * * But if you think a Romney presidency will change the program, you're sorely mistaken. After eight years of Bush, people were still using their bridge cards to buy fountain Mountain Dews and ice cream. * * * * * * * You don't think government programs kill society? Try this anecdote: My church has a food pantry. When it appeals for donations, my first instinct is, "Why? The poor people have food stamps, welfare, WIC, and other governmental aids." Although I donate something to the pantry, I have to fight back that (common sense) instinct, and I know I'm not alone. When government steps in, volunteer effort steps out . . . and society weakens a little further. * * * * * * * I guess I've been asleep at the Catholic TV switch. The Brooklyn Diocese has its own TV station. It live streams here. I'm a pretty big fan of EWTN. I'm going to bookmark this EWTN knock-off. * * * * * * * I'm determined to grow two things in particular next year: pumpkins and bell peppers. I'm putting peppers in my self-watering containers (peppers supposedly thrive in slw's), and I'm putting pumpkins in my Eden garden (and have already started the grow heaps for them: small piles of compost and soil, where I will plant the pumpkins next year). Good thing, too, because this article says pumpkins have become shockingly popular. * * * * * * * From National Review Online: "One little factoid should confirm for everyone that the West has fallen, and fallen hard – the fact that Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, a TLC reality show about the life and times of a seven-year-old beauty-pageant contestant, reportedly had more viewers than the Republican National Convention." I only half agree. It's scary that Honey Boo Boo is so popular, but the declining popularity of political propaganda? That's a good thing.
