While watching Pawn Stars last night (my dinner companion), I saw a Prohibition-era bottle of "Old Taylor medicinal whiskey" sell for $200. I was curious if the price was remotely in the ballpark. I couldn't find any for sale on the Internet. The Puritan liquor laws at work, I'm guessing. * * * * * * * High school football starts tonight. I'm going to need some of that medicine to calm my nerves. Jack is starting at strong-side linebacker and playing second string running back (behind a dinged-up first stringer). He's also the punt coverage gunner. I'm going to need three shots of the whiskey. Maybe I'll even go blind. * * * * * * * I've never been a big chain store fan. I have nothing against them, but I've never developed any sort of "brand" loyalty to a chain. But that could change. I guess there's a chain operation called "World of Beer." It has 31 restaurants in the U.S. It features 50 beers and ciders on tap and 500 in bottles. Unfortunately, it appears to be centered in the South. Here's a list of locations. I advise a lot of potential franchise buyers, and I always caution them against "being the first one" in an area. They end up contributing a lot of money to advertising campaigns that don't benefit them. But if I have a client who's interested in this franchise, I'll step to the plate and lobby hard for concessions that franchisors will often grant to the first "new guy" on the block.
