140 Million Served

Our country has 308 million people. It turns out that 165 million are full or partial dependents of the government (including 107 million welfare recipients and 22 million government employees). That's a major problem. It means the majority of people in this country have an economic self-interest in promoting government, while only a minority fend for themselves and want government off its back. With those figures, guess who wins at the polls? And as the government keeps growing and bringing more people under its umbrella, the workers and entrepreneurs continue to dwindle, as they're taxed to the hilt to pay for the government wards. Of course, the United States can use its military might to wrangle some of the cost out of other nations (Rome did, too), but at some point, the system must implode. Actually, it's imploding right now. The only question is whether the debris can be blown back out and the building re-erected. Color me skeptical.

More Evidence that a Key Cultural Presumption is False

The very worst job at Google? The screener: "a guy whose job at Google was to look at all the child porn, beheadings, bestiality, and necrophilia that comes across the company's products." Link. It turns out that the job was having an adverse impact on him, and he didn't even know it:

For seven, eight, nine months, I was looking at this kind of stuff and thinking I was fine, but it was putting me in a really dark place. Google got someone from a federal agency to talk to me, and that's when it occurred to me that I needed therapy.

That, obviously, can't be accurate. We all know that what we watch on TV or elsewhere has no impact on us. "It's not like you're gonna watch a slasher movie, then go out and kill someone. Haw, haw, guffaw." There can be no connection between what brain witnesses and how our brain thinks. How could that possibly be? And we know porn has no adverse impact on people's mental worlds: prisoners are addicted to porn because they have nothing else to do, not because porn put them in a dark place to begin with.

So this dude must be making all this up. Freakin' attention seeker.
