The container garden is shaping up. I took this pic yesterday. * * * * * * * Key element of container gardening: Herbs and spices (what's the difference?) go in traditional containers; vegetables go only in self-watering containers. Vegetables that don't set fruit, like spinach and kale, could probably go in a traditional container, too. * * * * * * * Those Grow Boxes, incidentally, are incredible. I planted them a few weeks after planting the same vegetables in traditional containers, and the Grow Box crops are far out-pacing the crops in the traditional containers. Pic (chard, tat soi, kale):

While gardening yesterday, I listened to this podcast with Benedict Groeschel. Groeschel isn't exactly a political activist, but this show on the atrocities at the Girl Scouts had my blood boiling. It has everything--willful blindness by Catholic authorities, far-left agendas, disingenuousness by people who don't want to admit what the Girl Scouts (at the national level, which is supported by local chapters) has become. * * * * * * * It really stinks that the podcast made me mad because I don't listen to Groeschel to get riled up. In fact, it's just the opposite: I listen to Groeschel for the calming effect he has on my existence. He's the kind of guy who makes you feel calm and at peace, just by hearing his voice. Few things are more peaceful than slow gardening with Groeschel talking in your ear. I think he's a living saint, but heck if I know. If you're not listening to him, seriously consider it. He's getting older and he's had some health problems, so you might get frustrated with his halting speech, but don't. You'd be missing the larger point of listening to him.
