So, my fourteen-year-old jock nephew Dan Scheske enters a July Fourth three-on-three basketball tournament in Topeka, Indiana, a podunk town with a lot of Amish people, situated about thirty minutes from my house. He gets there and sees a bunch of Amish boys warming up, playing in their button down shirts and long pants (but Nike shoes). He and his jock teammates snicker . . . then go out and get beaten by two different Amish teams.

It turns out that the Amish play a little baseball, a little volleyball, and a lot of basketball. They're strong from working in the fields, and their communities know the fundamentals of the game. Another nephew (who played at the collegiate level) wasn't surprised. He said, "Don't mess with the Amish. They're tough on the court."

If you learn nothing else today, you can at least take that nugget of information with you to the bar tonight. I was floored . . . and quite bemused. Whenever I play basketball with my nephew from now on, I'm gonna trash talk him with, "I's gonna go Jebediah all over yo' ____."

Movie ratings for blogs. It's interesting, but I'm kinda disappointed that I snagged a mere "PG" rating. I thought I'd register at least PG-13. The site appears to key-in on words, not actual content. Since I try to use more discrete terms ("vent" instead of a more vulgar term for the posterior is an urbanity I learned from Samuel Johnson's dictionary last week), maybe I've escaped with the more kid-friendly rating.

This is a shocker. Gay Pride parade in Madrid turns anti-Catholic.

That's it for today. Firework festivities kept me up late, and now I'm scrambling.
