Miscellaneous Rambling
I took half the family to see Kong Monday night for my birthday. It was a good, solid movie: no message, no meaning. Just a good old-fashioned monster flick. Highly recommended if you just want to sit back and take in some well-done junk.
I've been listening to David Bowie again lately. I was on a Bowie kick back in college but hadn't listened to him much since. I stumbled across "John, I'm Only Dancing." It amused me enough to prompt me to listen to it five times and pull up the song's Wikipedia entry, which mentions that John Lennon apparently made fun of Bowie's trans whatever: "It has been suggested that Bowie wrote the song in response to a derogatory comment made by John Lennon about Bowie's cross-dressing."
Lennon, of course, was proto-Alt-Right with no tolerance for people different than himself. A real Nazi. People on the left today hate him. (Snicker.)
The previous sarcasm prompted to research Lennon to see just how liberal he was. I've always "imagined" him as the liberal archetype. This piece at the American Conservative, however, indicates that simply isn't true . . . at least toward the end of Lennon's life. It's pretty interesting.
