It'll be curious to see how this plays out on New Years Eve. I might have to sober up a bit before the ball drops:

[T]hose tasked to protect and to serve the Big Apple, appear to have decided to turn their back on their job entirely, and in what is shaping up to be a long vendetta with the mayor, have succumbed to what the NY Post calls "a virtual work stoppage."
This implicit strike by the NYPD is manifesting as follows: "traffic tickets and summonses for minor offenses have dropped off by a staggering 94 percent following the execution of two cops – as officers feel betrayed by the mayor and fear for their safety."

Link.

It sounds like they're still tackling serious crime, so there probably won't be much good viewing tonight in Times Square. In fact, now that the NYPD aren't screwing around with petty crimes, maybe they can dedicate more hours to fighting serious crime. But then again, that would violate the broken window theory that drastically reduced crime in NYC in the first place.

We'll see. A good story regardless.

Everyone have a safe and wonderful NY Eve.
