Is it alright to have a futile hope? I do: I hope Latin makes a comeback, at least in the Catholic Church. I'd sell my soul to the devil for a Latin Mass!
Okay, I'm exaggerating. I won't even drive an hour once a month to get to a Latin Mass two counties over, but I would definitely support such an endeavor, especially if it meant we could get rid of the wretched bi-lingual Mass. There is something highly disorientating and frustrating about the bi-lingual Mass. I can't put my finger on it, but I loathe it. And then when I was talking with a Mexican friend, and she told me she and other Mexicans hate it, too, I became convinced that the bi-lingual Mass is the work of the devil, intended to sow strife in the field of harmony and destroy the liturgy!
Okay, I'm exaggerating again, but I think a return to the Latin Mass would be far (far, far, really, really far) better than the bi-lingual contraption U.S. churches are using in light of the immigration situation. So maybe, just maybe, there's a little hope that Latin could make a comeback.
And I read recently that Latin is a good Twitter language. I self-taught myself a semester of Latin, and the author is right.
If I could get Twitter and Mass in Latin, I'd consider that a futile hope fulfilled.
