I learned about Google Scholar last week. It "provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites." My state's premier legal education organization has endorsed it for legal research. I suspect the nerd association would endorse it for blogging research. I plan to access it frequently for that hard-to-find reference that I can't put my finger on.
