Garden Update

I'm still pulling spinach, kale, and brussel sprouts out of the garden. We're just finishing the last of the tomatoes. I first started pulling produce out in late April, so that means I've gotten produce for seven months so far, and, barring an early snap of seriously cold/snowy weather, eight months should be easy . . . with nine in reach. My goal is to get produce twelve months out of the year. I'm getting close, but those last three months (Jan-Mar) are going to require some real effort. I might be better off just canning for those months, but something about canning really turns me off. Good thing I have a wife.

A Proposition

I heard an interesting proposition on Rush: Divide the U.S. in half, right down the Mississippi River. Give the Obama voters their pick of what half they want. We'll take the other half. Two separate countries. Within in five years, the Mississippi River would become the new Rio Grande, with the Obama voters trying to get into our half by the droves. I'm not sure that many Obama supporters would even question that's what would happen. * * * * * * * I'd further that proposition: Divide it into thirds, with Ron Paul supporters getting the other third. If that were to occur, I'm not sure where I'd go. Ron Paul attracts a lot of nuts. I think that's inevitable: when you're outside the mainstream, you attract people outside the mainstream. And anyone who wants to break out of this two-party rape job called "Washington DC" has to get outside the mainstream. It's quite the dilemma.

Food Stamps Surge

In case you missed it: "This [month] the USDA delayed its release [of food stamp data] nine days past the semi-official deadline, far past the election, and until Friday night to report August foodstamp data. One glance at the number reveals why: at 47.1 million, this was not only a new all time record, but the monthly increase of 420,947 from July was the biggest monthly increase in one year. One can see why a reported surge in foodstamps ahead of the elections is something the USDA, and the administration may not have been too keen on disclosing." Link.
