Miscellany

No significance behind this picture. I was just looking for pictures from NYC and found this one (taken at a cemetery in the Bronx) at Wikicommons and thought it pretty cool. * * * * * * * Over at Drudge this morning, there are a lot of troubling headlines out of NYC:

Drivers Waiting 6 Hours For Gas in NYC...
Tempers Rise in Wake of Storm...
'Finding bodies left and right'...
Restaurant, hotel prices skyrocket...
CHUCK SCHUMER CONFRONTED: 'We Are Gonna Die!'
CRAIGSLIST: $15 a gallon...
Utility workers pelted with eggs...
Misery...
'We have nothing'...
Residents Furious RED CROSS Offering Cookies & Hot Chocolate, Not Blankets Or Clothes...
Jet Fuel Supply Fast Becoming Concern At Airports...
Staten Islanders Plead for Help: 'We Need Food'...
'Please don't leave us'...
VIDEO: Stranded New Yorkers Defecating in Apartment Buildings...

I didn't click on any of the links, especially that last one. * * * * * * * One of the better slide shows from Hurricane Sandy aftermath. Man, at times the devastation looks like something you'd expect to see in a third-world country that simply doesn't have decent infrastructure. * * * * * * * Meanwhile, we have a nut in the Detroit area shooting at cars along I-96 (because life isn't hard enough already). The hunch is, the guy is randomly shooting at oncoming cars (across the berm). When I heard about it, I thought, "How would you possibly catch someone doing such a thing?" Well, it looks like they're making progress . . . if the press releases can be believed. * * * * * * * She voted for Obama in 2008, and I've always assumed she is a leftist, but Camille Paglia isn't voting for Obama on Tuesday. Among the reasons, she cites something I've long found objectionable about Obama: his polarizing effect on race relations. Paglia: "I consider him, now, one of the most racially divisive and polarizing figures ever. I think it's going to take years to undo the damage to relationships between the races." I agree. When Obama won, I wasn't too bummed out. For starters, I wasn't a big McCain fan, but secondly, I figured, "Well, the racism crap should stop now. If a black man can ascend to the highest level of power in this country, surely we can start to move past affirmative action and the racism bogeyman that haunts every white-black encounter." But no. Obama didn't want that to happen and, as Paglia observes, he has made things even worse. Blacks hate whites more than ever, and whites are growing really tired of black violence and complaining.

Turn your clocks back an hour tonight!
